Ayurveda Tips - March

March invites us to slow down, reflect, and nourish our bodies and minds as we move

through the heart of winter in beautiful British Columbia. Yoga and Ayurveda offer a perfect

opportunity to harmonize with the slower energy of the season and embrace the practices that

promote warmth, balance, and inner peace. With movement and self-care rituals, we can

create renewal, remove brain fog, and embrace a new lighter you.

1. Support your immunity- February is still a time when the body needs warmth and

protection from the cold – not quite salad time yet. Add warming spices like ginger,

cinnamon, and turmeric to your meals to boost circulation and digestion.

2. Warm, nourishing foods – opt for hearty soups, stews, and root vegetables that are

grounding and easy to digest. Warm-cooked grains like quinoa or oats with ghee

(clarified butter) can soothe and nourish the body.

3. Moisturize your skin – winter weather can dry out the skin, so Ayurveda oils such as

sesame oil, almond oil, or coconut oil can be used daily for self-massage (abhyanga) to

help keep the skin hydrated and reduce dry patches.

4. Keep Vata balanced – vata dosha tends to be more aggravated during this time of year,

leading to dryness, anxiety, and irregular sleep. To calm Vata, focus on grounding

activities like yoga and meditation and include warm, moist, and oily foods in your diet.

5. Herbal teas for balance – drink teas like chamomile, ginger, or licorice root to soothe the

digestive system and balance your inner fire.

6. Early bedtimes and rest – the energy of the late winter season invites rest and

rejuvenation. Prioritize getting enough sleep and practice self-care rituals that promote

relaxation, like a warm bath.
